If anything, it should be a blessing. There is no study that proves gay parents ‘turn’ their kids
(whether they are adopted or came to life via IVF) gay, that gay parents raise their kids a different
way or that kids raised by these parents turn out violent, criminal or gay themselves. In my opinion,
kids that are raised by gay parents are never unwanted. They are not an accident. They don’t ‘just
happen’. They were adopted or created with the intention of raising them in a loving, caring family.
They were definitely not a mistake.
Unlike heterosexual couples (note: I’m not saying all children raised by heterosexual couples are
unwanted!) gay partners plan out these things very thoroughly. You will never witness a show
like ‘Teen Mom’ or ’16 and pregnant’ featuring gay couples, simply because they have thought
through these kinds of things. Ofcourse, children raised by heterosexual couples don’t turn out any
different than children raised by gay couples. However, I’m just saying that some of these young
pregnancies are definitely not thought through well enough.
Florida and gay marriage
I’m unsure whether or not some of you have seen the movie ‘What makes a family’ or not. It’s
a truly heartbreaking story about two gay women who want a child. One of them has become
pregnant via IVF, but shortly after birth she falls ill. Eventually the doctor tells her she has an auto-
immune disease that will affect her entire body, but can be treated and kept under control with
medication. As the movie progresses you see her become more and more ill, until she passes away.
The grandparents of the kid suddenly step up and take the child off her partner via court, because in
Florida bloodbonds are above all other laws and rules. Her partnership with her lifelong companion
was never mentioned. Ofcourse this is heartbreaking, but eventually she fights back and even
manages to get her child to move back in with her. However, it’s sad to know that Florida still has
these rules. That means if your partner passes away and custody was never written down in a will or
anything like that, family could just take your child away from you. Just like that.
What’s even worse is that it’s not looking up for gay couples in Florida, either. According to a study
that has been done in 2012 only 27 percent of the population in Florida thinks gay couples should be
allowed to legally marry. That makes me sad.
Gay couples should be allowed to legally marry |
37 % |
Gay couples should be allowed to form civil unions but not marry | 35 % |
There should be no legal recognition of a gay couple’s relationship | 26 % |
Not sure | 3% |
